I had the privilege to chair the “Best of the Best” judging and event at this seasons New York Gift International Gift Fair Winter 2013 and want to say thank you to all. I thought I would give you a glimpse into our day.
The judging was completed by a group of ASID Designers which I named the “Walk of Presidents”. Our little group had 3 Past Presidents of ASID Metro Chapter Maggie Cohen, Pedro Lima and Benjamin Huntington, the current President Jacqueline Hosford, and the current IDLNY President Benjamin Hunting ton. Additional members rounded out our chatty bunch, Arlene Angard, Michele Taylor and Diane Susoev.
It was a long day but a great day! Lots of wonderful things to see and people to talk with. While our decisions were hard the group actually had great time during the judging process. Discussions and laughs abound.
Imaginative Product Presentation went to Middle Kingdom – great porcelain pieces but WOW the display. Showed the product off perfectly and was beautiful on its own.
Innovative Product Design went to Canopy Designs LTD – look at those light fixtures, each one gets better than the one before.
Social Responsibility/Ecological Sensitivity went to Cisco– a family owned furniture business that makes the world better, we love it!
Lighting went to Luna Bella, Inc – the judges couldn’t get enough of the products they had in their booth – exceptional lighting!
Accessories went to Lostine – while we saw a lot here the judges thought the NEW coat rack was a show stand out!
Textile went to Carson & Company – a clear winner for the judges – wonderful colors and just enough whimsy when modernizing a classic design. Not to say we all loved the pocketbooks too.
and last but not least Wall Art went to Itinerant Studio – a newbie to the gift fair they were a top choice – they take the photos and make them into beautiful art, GORGEOUS. We wish them good luck!
As you can see this was a wonderful group of winners. Follow our blog in the weeks to come and I will highlight each winner and show you more of their things.
